Eligibility & Application
Can I apply with poor 10th marks?
Minimum 40% aggregate and 40% in English required. Below that, ITI (2-year Govt-approved) with 50% is acceptable.
I'm 26. Am I eligible?
General age limit is 25. SC/ST get 5 yrs (30), OBC-NCL 3 yrs (28), Female 2 yrs (27). No exceptions to the upper limit.
Are female candidates welcome?
Absolutely. Female cadets receive 2-year age relaxation. Many shipping companies actively prefer female officers for diversity targets.
Fees & Payment
Can I pay in cash?
No. Bank channel only — UPI, NEFT, RTGS, or card. Every rupee leaves a trail. Cash demand = fraud, report immediately.
What if I drop out?
As per the refund policy governed by the MTI and DGMA norms — usually 90% pre-batch.
Training & MTI
Which MTI will I go to?
You choose at Stage 8. 3+ DGMA-approved MTIs are presented with fees, location, batch dates. NAF&SA never decides for you.
How long is GP Rating training?
6 months, fully residential training.
Is hostel mandatory?
Yes, all MTI training is residential. Maritime discipline begins in the hostel — early reveille, uniform, mess duty rotation.
After Training
When will I sail?
First sea joining typically 1–3 months after pre-sea completion. Depends on shipping company schedules and vessel availability.
What's the first salary?
As a trainee on the first contract, expect USD $400–600/month. After 6 months as Ordinary Seaman, $1,000–1,500. Tax-free for NRI.
Can I shift to officer cadre later?
Yes. After 5 years of sea-time as rating, you can write Class 4 CoC exams and become a junior officer. Many take this route.
